Keynote Address: “Three Things You Don’t Know: Why They Matter and What to Do Next”

Sponsored by American Share Insurance
Presented by Lee Wetherington

8:45 – 9:45 a.m.
Three immutable facts frame the new era of financial services. First, 70% of transactions happen online, and 61% of online adults frequent social networks. Second, within two years, half of all mobile phones will be smartphones, and more people will access the Internet with mobile devices than with PCs. Third, Gen Y is now the most populous generation, one that has bought more financial products and services in the past 18 months than any other. What does it all mean? Join Lee for a unique, bottom-line view of what credit unions must do to meet the new demands of post-recession consumer/business psychology and thrive in the new era.

Afternoon Session Only: BSA for Volunteers: Update on Bank Secrecy Act
Presented by Dave Hawkins, ICUL Senior Consultant

As volunteers, Bank Secrecy Act training is a must. Regulators continue to expect you to understand its requirements, and they can hold you personally liable for non-compliance. Punishment for non-compliance can be expensive monetary fines, forced mergers, employment and volunteer prohibition orders. The latest and most notable penalty is $7 million against Pacific National Bank. This session will provide you with: tips to assure your credit union’s compliance; an understanding of the human and monetary resources necessary; and an overview of the following requirements: risk assessments, policies and procedures, independent testing, education requirements, OFAC searches, and monitoring necessities, especially for anti-money laundering.

Rather than taking a stab at marketing the credit union difference based on a vague sense of what appeals to consumers, Ben Rogers, research director at the Filene Research Institute, shares the results of research that verifies messages with actual consumers. The result: A campaign designed to sell consumers on tangible credit union benefits.

Constructing a New Vision for Lending
Presented by David Polet, CMG Program Manager for Voice of Customer

In this presentation, we will look at a number of trends and influences on how we perceive where the lending environment is and where it should go. We will look over a number of recent research studies and piece them together to construct a new vision for lending.
