ONLINE AUCTION NETS $5,000 FOR RILEY HOSPITAL
June 2, 2003
Indiana credit unions raised $5,000 in the first-ever Credit Unions for Kids
Indiana Online auction. The auction ran for a three-week period, ending May 12.
A variety of collectibles, sports tickets, vacation and dining experiences and
other items were auctioned online to bidders nationwide. More than 100 items
were donated by 11 Hoosier credit unions. Internet surfers from across the
country visited the site to bid on items. In addition to Indiana, winners came
from Missouri, Michigan, Nevada and other states. Proceeds go to Riley
Hospital for Children, the state's only comprehensive resource for its youngest,
sickest children. Indiana credit unions have supported the hospital for several
years through Credit Unions for Kids. According to Purdue Employees Federal
Credit Union (PEFCU) President Bill Connors, "We were drawn to this event
as the result of a staff member's experience with the hospital. The first-rate
care and comfort her family received prompted us to get involved. I am very
pleased with the auction results and I am proud that our credit union can
support one of the top children's hospitals in the country in such a
creative way." The original idea for the auction came from PEFCU and the
majority of the items were solicited by this credit union. "We appreciate
PEFCU's initiative to get this auction started and the efforts of all the credit
unions that helped make it a success," said League President John McKenzie.
"We look forward to it growing each year and benefiting Riley Hospital even
more.
