Connors, Wilhelm inducted into Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame
October 1, 2004
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame has two new members.
Bill Connors of Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union (PEFCU, West Lafayette)
and Shirley Wilhelm who recently retired from N & W Federal Credit Union (New
Haven) were inducted on Sept. 17. The Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame
recognizes credit union leaders who have given outstanding long-term service to
the Indiana credit union movement. Connors and Wilhelm join 57 other individuals
who have also received this honor.
Connors, who recently finished his term as chairman of the board of
Mid-States Corporate Federal Credit Union, has been involved with credit unions
for many years. In addition to his service at PEFCU, he has also been
president/CEO of other credit union organizations in Massachusetts, Washington,
D.C. and California. He has provided leadership for the credit union system at
the national level through his service on the boards of the Members Development
Company, E-Corp, Card Services for Credit Unions and the Credit Union Executives
Society. He as also served CUNA as a national director, was a Research Council
Member for the Filene Research Institute, and has been on numerous committees at
many organizations in the credit union business.
Wilhelm, who spent 45 years in the credit union movement before her
retirement, personifies credit unions’ “people-helping-people” philosophy. Her
involvement in credit union activities throughout the state including grassroots
political activities is legendary. And, at N & W FCU, she is known as an
innovator, adding many new services at that credit union, despite its small
size.
