Jeffersonville, Ind. -- On March 28 credit unions were represented at an event for Indiana’s newest Congressman, Mike Sodrel (R-9). Rep. Sodrel welcomed 300 people including Indiana Credit Union League President John McKenzie and Vice President of Governmental Affairs Chris Beaumont to Kye’s at Water Tower Square in Jeffersonville.

Headlining the event was Vice President Dick Cheney who spoke about the war on terror, social security and tax reform. Rep. Sodrel’s remarks echoed many of the same themes. Another highlight of the event was Rep. Sodrel’s 7-year-old granddaughter’s rousing rendition of "God Bless America."

This was not the first meeting between credit unions and Rep. Sodrel. McKenzie and Beaumont were the first guests the Congressman met with at his new Jeffersonville district office in February.

Rep. Sodrel serves on the Science, Small Business and Transportation & Infrastructure Committees of Congress and he recently voted in favor of S. 256 – the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005.

"We were proud to represent credit unions at this event," said McKenzie. "We appreciate Rep. Sodrel’s support of bankruptcy reform along with his openness in meeting with us early in his term. We will continue to work to strengthen Indiana credit unions’ relationship with the Congressman."
