Indiana Credit Unions Contribute Nearly $23,000 to Tsunami
Relief Fund
April 22, 2005
INDIANAPOLIS -- Following the disastrous tsunamis in southeastern Asia last
December, the Indiana Credit Union Foundation established a Tsunami Relief Fund.
Hoosier credit unions and Foundation supporters were encouraged to donate to
this fund, which raised a grand total of $22,788. Contributions were accepted
through the end of March and forwarded to the Worldwide Foundation for Credit
Unions where they were combined with donations from other credit union
organizations across the globe and distributed to credit unions that were
affected. A total of 32 Indiana credit unions contributed to this total, as well
as five individuals, the Indiana Credit Union Foundation and Servicecorp.
"The generosity of our Indiana credit unions and friends is a real-life
example of the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy for which credit unions are
best known," said Indiana Credit Union Foundation Chairman Ron Budzinski of
La-Porter FCU in Michigan City. The Worldwide Credit Union Foundation and the
National Credit Union Foundation raised a combined $692,874 for the tsunami
disaster relief rebuilding efforts in Sri Lanka using funds donated from Indiana
and elsewhere.
