Indiana offers $35,000 to help CUs attend GAC
November 21, 2005

The Indiana delegation to GAC, usually about 40-50 people, could grow by at least 20 this year because of financial assistance from the League. Representatives from Indiana are shown here with Senator Evan Bayh (center) during their 2004 GAC visit when Sen. Bayh reserved a room in the Russell Senate Office Building and spent considerable time with the group visiting and answering questions.

INDIANAPOLIS – Representatives from as many as 20 Indiana credit unions will have the opportunity to attend CUNA’s GAC this year with assistance from the Indiana League and Servicecorp.

Through its Servicecorp operation, the League has made $35,000 available to assist its affiliates; with an emphasis on those who have never attended the annual conference and the Hill visits which are a major component. An amount of $1,750 will be disbursed to selected credit unions and should cover one person’s costs including conference registration, air fare, hotel, meals and travel expenses.

“Political involvement by credit union representatives has never been more important than it is right now,” said League President John McKenzie.  “Our League and Servicecorp had a great year and we want to share the success with our affiliates, similar to the way credit unions share their successes with their members. The GAC is a premiere conference and we are pleased to be in a position to underwrite the cost of attendance for as many as 20 first-time attendees.”

Indiana’s affiliated credit unions may submit one name. Selection will be based on criteria including political involvement, financial need and whether the person has attended the GAC before. The Indiana Credit Union Foundation also offers a scholarship that covers expenses for the recipient to attend the GAC.
