Indiana League Convention features remarks from Lt. Governor

INDIANAPOLIS— The 72nd Annual Meeting and Convention of the Indiana Credit Union
League was held Sept. 21-23 at the Convention Center in Indianapolis. Indiana’s
Lt. Governor Becky Skillman addressed attendees following the opening keynote
address for the event, reinforcing her support of credit unions and discussing
economic development in Indiana. She was introduced to the representatives from
Indiana’s credit unions by her friend and fellow Lawrence County resident,
George McNichols who is President/CEO of Hoosier Hills CU in Bedford. McNichols
is League Board Secretary and has worked with Lt. Governor Skillman since the
early 1980s when she was Lawrence County Recorder.
At the League’s annual business meeting, League President John McKenzie
commended Indiana’s credit unions for their excellence in meeting the needs of
the state’s 2.2 million members, and he encouraged political involvement to
protect and further credit union interests, among the topics in his remarks.
Outgoing board members Angie Dufour, who chaired the meeting, and Loren Roth,
received special recognition.
CUNA Mutual Group Board Chair Loretta Burd addressed attendees at the annual
business meeting. Burd is also President/CEO of Centra CU in Columbus. Members
United Corporate FCU CEO Joe Herbst also addressed the meeting. Herbst is
Chairman of U.S. Central CU.
There were 790 attendees at the convention from credit unions representing more
than 80 percent of Indiana’s total credit union membership and assets.
