Congressman Dan Burton is Indiana Credit Union League’s Outstanding Hoosier
Legislator
September 24, 2007
Congressman Dan Burton, who represents Indiana’s 5th Congressional
District, has been named as the Indiana Credit Union League’s Outstanding
Hoosier Legislator for 2007. The award is given each year during the League’s
annual convention to honor a legislator who has gone the extra mile to support
Indiana’s credit unions. The award was presented to Congressman Burton at a
ceremony in Indianapolis on Sept. 8.
Since being elected to Congress in 1982, Congressman Burton has been a
consistent leader in supporting credit unions. “We have always been able to
count on Congressman Burton to support Indiana’s credit unions and their 2.2
million Hoosier members,” said League President John McKenzie, “Throughout his
career, he has been very accessible to credit union leaders.” Congressman Burton
was one of 10 original co-sponsors of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements
Act, H.R. 1537, when it was introduced earlier this year. H.R. 1537 includes
several key provisions that will help credit unions to better serve their
members.
By winning the award this year, Congressman Burton becomes the first person
to win the League’s Outstanding Hoosier Legislator Award three times, having
also won in 1991 and 1998.
