Indiana's Congressman Ellsworth co-sponsors CURIA
February 20, 2008 Freshman Congressman Brad Ellsworth (D-IN)
has become the 143rd co-sponsor of the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act
(CURIA, HR 1537). He becomes the second Indiana Congressman to co-sponsor the
proposed legislation, as Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) was in the original group of
co-sponsors.
“Congressman Ellsworth has been very accessible to us since being elected to
Congress in 2006,” said League President John McKenzie. “The merits of CURIA
have been discussed with him on numerous occasions. Based on those discussions,
we were optimistic that he would become a CURIA co-sponsor.”
“Indiana credit unions were instrumental in Rep. Ellsworth’s 8th
Congressional District campaign to unseat an incumbent member of the House who
was not a credit union supporter,” McKenzie continued. “Representatives of many
Indiana credit unions and the League were heavily involved in the Ellsworth for
Congress campaign in 2006, including the President of Evansville Teachers FCU
Mike Phipps, and his wife Amy, who hosted a campaign fundraiser at their home
with close to 100 attendees.”

Congressman Brad Ellsworth (center, red tie) met with representatives from
many Indiana credit unions in August 2007 at Evansville Teachers FCU,
which is located in his district. Indiana credit unions were actively
involved in the Ellsworth for Congress campaign in 2006, helping him to
defeat an incumbent who was not a credit union supporter. |
