News release: Rep. Walorski among full slate of speakers at Indiana Legislative Affairs Forum

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Credit Union League held its annual Legislative Affairs Forum on Feb. 8.
 
The day began with lunch where League Chairman Matt Lambert of Encompass FCU, Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman/CUNA Board Member Dallas Bergl of INOVA FCU, League President John McKenzie and VP Governmental Affairs Chris Beaumont started things off by welcoming nearly 90 attendees. State Senator Randy Head (R-Logansport) was first to address the group, talking about credit union-related issues in the Indiana General Assembly, and he stressed the overall importance of building relationships with legislators.
 
Keynote presenter U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-2) spoke to the group about her lifelong credit union membership, praising credit unions for all they do for their members and communities. She reinforced that she is always willing to advocate for credit unions on important issues. Rep. Walorski also talked about her service on the Armed Services, Veterans’ Affairs and Agriculture committees.
 
“This event is a highlight of the League’s political and legislative advocacy activity each year,” said League President John McKenzie. “Rep. Walorski has an excellent relationship with our credit unions, and we are pleased she was able to spend time with us.”
 
Additionally, John Magill of the Livingston Group gave a presentation that focused on the political environment in Washington, D.C.
 
Also, Purdue FCU President/CEO Bob Falk gave the group an update from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where he is a member of its Credit Union Advisory Council. McKenzie gave a federal legislative update, and Beaumont provided a state-level overview. The cast of the statewide political TV show Indiana Week in Review was also at the event, sharing viewpoints on a variety of political happenings around Indiana.
 
Indiana credit unions were recognized for their achievements in supporting ICUPAC and CULAC. Evansville Teachers FCU was the top credit union contributor by amount for 2015. United CU was the credit union that contributed the top percentage of its goal in 2015.
 
The event also included an evening reception where state legislators were able to meet with their credit union constituents.
