(INDIANAPOLIS)— Northern Indiana Federal Credit Union President Sandy Heller was inducted into the Indiana Credit
Union Hall of Fame during the Indiana Credit Union League’s statewide convention. She was honored at the Chairman’s Awards Banquet, at the JW Marriott Hotel on Oct. 7.
Heller served on the League Board from 2001 to 2010 and is a past League Chairman. She is currently Vice Chairman of the Indiana Credit Union Foundation and a member of the League’s Governmental Affairs Committee.
“It is very humbling to receive such an honor for work that has been my passion for so many years,” she said. “The people helping people philosophy of credit unions has made the job very rewarding.”
Her contributions to the credit union business have reached around the world—she helped start credit unions in Uzbekistan, and her leadership during her tenure on the League Board has benefited credit unions here in Indiana.
Heller’s credit union career began in 1977. Since then, she has played a role in many innovations credit unions use today. She was on the first board of directors for shared branching in the state of Indiana, and she is a charter member of the board of the Indiana Credit Union Foundation. Additionally, she has been an active board member for the Northwest Chapter as well as a key Congressional contact and grassroots volunteer. She was honored in 1999 as a recipient of the League’s Professional Achievement Award.
