A cooperative is an autonomous association of people united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise. In Indiana there are hundreds of cooperative organizations including credit unions, insurance agencies, energy providers, housing, daycare, farm supply, education, and grocery co-ops.

The Governor’s proclamation will be on display throughout the week in the Indiana Farm Bureau Building (225 South East Street, Indianapolis) which is home to several cooperative organizations that provide financial services, insurance products, energy exploration, and other services.

The celebration and support of co-operative businesses will continue after the conclusion of Cooperative Week when the Indiana Cooperative Summit takes place October 28. The theme of the summit is “2012: The International Year of the Co-Op.” For details or to register, visit www.indianasummit.coop.
