BSA Specialist - Beacon CU

Title:  BSA Specialist
Reports to:  Compliance Manager
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Work Location:  Ideally based in Wabash, IN – however, we will consider other Beacon locations with available office space

Role:  To administer the day-to-day aspects and assist in long-term planning and execution of the Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Program.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
20% - Monitors reports associated with BSA. Investigates cases produced by BSA software and decides on further action if appropriate. Identifies suspicious activity (“Red Flags”) in the review process. Reviews documentation for certain high-risk accounts.
20% - Analyzes reports which assist in identifying when a CTR and/or SAR is required.  Assists in filing CTRs and SARs with FinCEN within appropriate time frames.
15% - Assists the BSA Officer in developing methods to monitor new and developing risk factors.
10% - Monitors OFAC compliance as required by FinCEN and the U.S. Treasury.
10% - Analyzes complex situations and provides guidance, and escalates issues to BSA Officer and/or Compliance Manager.
10% - Helps monitor changes in laws, regulations, and trends. Assists with informing the appropriate departments of any changes in laws, regulations, and/or trends.
5% - Assists in managing the Credit Union’s BSA compliance programs. Monitors compliance with BSA rules and regulations. Assists in the development and implementation of the BSA training program for all staff.
5% - Assists with creating and maintaining BSA risk assessment.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.

Expectations:

  1. To provide friendly, professional, and accurate service and support to all staff, external regulators, and associates.
  2. To ensure the Credit Union’s compliance efforts are adhered to by conducting random audits, reporting, and documenting findings.
  3. To assist the Compliance Manager in ensuring department activities run smoothly and efficiently by providing training within the department.
  4. To provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and employees.

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:  Three to five years of similar or related experience.
Education:  A two-year college degree or proven abilities through prior experience.
Skills

  • Ability to work well independently and with little or no supervision
  • Ability to motivate or influence others and obtain cooperation (internally and/or externally)
  • Good communication skills (with both Internal and External Personnel)
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented
  • Must have the ability to think both critically and at a high level
