INDIANAPOLIS – Jill Banning, longtime President/CEO and Chief Executive Officer of REGIONAL FCU, was inducted into the Indiana Credit Union Hall of Fame on Oct. 2 as part of the Indiana Credit Union League’s annual convention. The Hall of Fame is the League’s highest honor, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the credit union movement.
Banning built an impressive career in the credit union movement, beginning as a computer operator and advancing through positions of increasing responsibility before becoming President and CEO of REGIONAL FCU. Throughout her career, which culminated in her retirement earlier this year, she guided the credit union's growth and expansion of services while fostering a culture of respect, teamwork, and support among employees and board members.
Financial education has been a hallmark of Banning’s leadership. With REGIONAL FCU’s roots in serving educators, she made financial literacy a priority, helping establish in-school credit unions in 13 Northwest Indiana schools. These programs introduced students to saving, money management, and the value of credit union membership, earning recognition and awards over the years. Under her leadership, the credit union also provided ongoing financial education for members of all ages on topics ranging from money management to fraud prevention.
Banning has also been a strong advocate for cooperation among credit unions. In the 1990s, she played an instrumental role in establishing Credit Union Centers of Northwest Indiana, bringing shared branching services to thousands of credit union members. That initiative eventually became part of a larger cooperative network serving credit unions in Indiana and Illinois. Banning served on the Credit Union Centers Board for 22 years, including three years as president, helping oversee a credit union service organization responsible for approximately 300 branches in Indiana and connected to a nationwide shared branching network of more than 5,400 locations.
Her commitment to the broader credit union movement extended to the Indiana Credit Union League, where she served on multiple committees and served on the League’s Board of Directors from 2020 through 2026. Through that service, she helped support the League’s work on behalf of Indiana credit unions and their 2.8 million members.
