Elkhart’s Dallas Bergl will testify before the Senate Banking Committee on behalf of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), where he is a board member. Bergl is also on the board of the Indiana Credit Union League, which is the association for Indiana’s credit unions. He chairs the League’s Governmental Affairs Committee and serves as board secretary. “It is historic for an Indiana credit union CEO to be testifying before this committee, representing member-owned, not-for-profit credit unions nationwide ” said League President John McKenzie. “Dallas will do a great job testifying about the unnecessary regulations that credit unions face.” The date and time of the hearing is not yet posted on the U.S. Senate schedule, but it is anticipated to take place June 8. This link will provide access to the details and live streaming of the hearing, once it’s posted. Text of the news release issued by CUNA is below.

CUNA Board Member to Testify Before Senate Banking Committee
Washington, DC (June 1) – CUNA board member Dallas Bergl, CEO of INOVA FCU, Elkhart, Ind., will testify on behalf of CUNA before the Senate Banking Committee next week for a hearing on public policy proposals to promote economic growth.

“I look forward to speaking to members of the committee about how increasing regulatory costs are creating barriers for my credit union to best serve our members, and to discuss ways Congress can help credit unions and consumers,” Bergl said. “INOVA FCU certainly isn’t alone in feeling the weight of excessive regulation which divert resources from consumer-friendly products and services. Credit unions stand ready to help support members, small businesses and the economy, and we need Congress to act.”

During his testimony, Bergl will highlight several goals that are part of CUNA’s bipartisan, pro-consumer Campaign for Common-Sense Regulation, including changes to the function and structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He will also address housing finance reform, modernizing the NCUA’s examination process and more.
